About Hostplus

Over time, Hostplus has become one of the largest industry super funds in Australia, with more than one million members and an ever-growing network of employers. We’re privileged to hold the trust of so many, and we remain committed to bringing about a better tomorrow, for them, and for all Australians.

Our Commitment to Reconciliation

Afl 2016 Rd 10 Essendon V Richmond

At Hostplus, we respectfully acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners of the lands in which we come together. We pay our respects to leaders, past, present and emerging, and we commit to caring for these ancient lands.

We are committed to reconciliation and recognise the current social and economic challenges faced by members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities around the country. We are particularly mindful of the impact these challenges have on the day to day financial wellbeing and retirement outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We firmly believe it is our responsibility to do what we can to meet these challenges head on, to affect positive change and to promote unity and equality at a national level.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan

As a Fund we are committed to ensuring all Australians have access to the tools and resources they need to enjoy the retirement they deserve. Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) outlines a roadmap of initiatives we are committed to delivering, to raise awareness and help close the retirement savings gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians. It also includes practical actions to drive our contribution to reconciliation more broadly, both internally and in the communities in which we operate.

In 2016 we launched our first Hostplus ‘Reflect’ RAP, and in 2019 we proudly launched our ‘Innovate’ RAP.

Our RAP Champions

As a national organisation, Hostplus has key staff in every state and region, who act as ambassadors of our RAP.  These staff are known as our ‘RAP Champions’, and this is a voluntary role. They meet at least monthly, and play a critical role in ensuring the success of our RAP by:

  • Supporting reconciliation and Hostplus RAP initiatives
  • Identifying employers in their region who support reconciliation
  • Identifying like-minded organisations/opportunities to support, collaborate and promote
  • Recognising when an Indigenous member may need additional assistance to engage with/access superannuation, and facilitate appropriate support
  • Facilitating internal activities, education, and cultural awareness training for all Hostplus employees.

Our Improved Identity Verification Process for Indigenous Persons

We have successfully negotiated alternative identity verification for Indigenous persons. Not all Aboriginal people have access to standard identification documents, which makes it difficult for them to meet government requirements relating to super administration.

Now, Hostplus members from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities can prove their identity through an ‘Indigenous person’s identity referral form’ or by photographic reference.

Working to Raise Awareness

We have invited our partner organisations to participate in social media activity surrounding reconciliation to help educate our staff and the wider Hostplus community. The first video in this series, posted across our social media channels, featured Gold Coast SUNS player and proud Yirrganydji/Kuku-Yalanji man, Jarrod Harbrow. It received the most positive engagement of all our posts over the past year, a testament to the power of both the message conveyed by Jarrod and his reputation and standing.

We continue to work with our industry and superannuation partners to close the gap for Aboriginal  and Torres Strait Islanders including the William Angliss Institute, the National Indigenous Culinary Institute, Souths Cares (an affiliate of the South Sydney Rabbitohs Rugby League Club), the International College of Management Sydney and the Insurance in Super Working Group.
